Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell is a British former socialite and a convicted sex offender. In 2021, she was found guilty of child sex trafficking and other offences in connection with the deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Ghislaine Maxwell is not currently on Jeffrey Epstein’s island, as she is serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in Epstein’s sex trafficking network. Following her conviction in 2021, she was moved to a federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas, in August 2025. Meanwhile, Epstein’s former islands were sold in 2023 and are being developed into a luxury resort.
Maxwell’s current status
Imprisoned in Texas: In early August 2025, Maxwell was transferred to the minimum-security Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas, to continue serving her 20-year sentence.
DOJ interviews: Before her move to Texas, Maxwell was interviewed by the Department of Justice in late July 2025. During these meetings, she denied many of the high-profile accusations related to Epstein’s network.
Statements about the island: In the interviews, Maxwell spoke about managing Epstein’s budget for the Caribbean property and contradicted claims that former President Bill Clinton had visited the island.
What happened to Epstein’s island
New ownership: In May 2023, billionaire investor Stephen Deckoff bought Little St. James , Epstein’s primary island, and the neighboring Great St. James for $60 million. Resort development: Deckoff’s firm, SD Investments, is converting the islands into a “world-class luxury” resort that could open as early as 2025.
Proceeds for victims: Half of the sale proceeds were directed to the U.S. Virgin Islands government to fund services for victims of sexual abuse and human trafficking.
